Welcome to my wiki...from literalism toward literacy

This site is home to several WikiWikiWeb pages maintained by Dann Siems. The individual pages serve a variety of purposes and have a variety of access and editing restrictions. For example, the Breakfast Cult and other asterisked pages can be edited only by registered users but are available for public view. P & the E (People & the Environment) pages, the Camp Fish page, and any others marked with a † can be edited and viewed only by registered users. All it takes to register is to assign yourself a username and password using the link at right. All other pages can be viewed and edited by anyone.

By now you may be wondering, what is a wiki? The simplest way to explain the idea is to call it a collaborative writing space. It is a essentially a website (or page) that is editable by viewers. If that concept seems strange and even a bit unworkable, I encourage you to visit Wikipedia to see just how well it can work. For my money, it is the most exciting and culturally transformative idea to come along since the web itself.

Welcome to the dynamic, organic unfolding process of collaborative writing...the Sandbox (we are all infants or at best toddlers in wiki writing) or the Random Rants pages are probably the best place to start -- no registration is necessary and both give you the chance to get a feel for the Wiki environment. The first agenda item on the Political Consensus page is an attempt to develop a policy statement on abortion that could be affirmed by more tha 80% of American voters -- can it be done? The Common Prayer page has a more focused objective but can also be edited and viewed by anyone. Sapere aude! (Dare to be wise -- have the courage to trust and use your own wisdom!)

Explore and enjoy!
